Unrecorded Future Tell Us What Broods Thereperformance and print, 2008Everyday for the duration of the exhibition Intervention/Decoration, Mike Bishop, Frome’s town crier made a series of short proclamations based on the book Poems of Human Service by Gustav Spiller, an activist in the transatlantic anti-eugenics movement in the early twentieth century. The proclamations, a series of twenty wood block letterpress posters, were then displayed at the Black Swan, a former tavern and public meeting room, interspersed with images of a wheel of fortune, an image which would appear on the walls of taverns across Europe during the Middle Ages at times of social upheaval. Commissioned by Foreground Projects based in Frome, Somerset. |
